Impact sound reduction solutions: wedi NonStep
|
If you need to reduce impact sound on either concrete or suspended timber floors, specifying products from the Wedi NonStep range could well be your solution.
For both ceramic or natural stone finishes, Wedi NonStep can deliver impact sound reduction of up to 16db. This performance can make a significant contribution towards 'Part E' requirements where you need to achieve ratings of 62db for new build or 64db for conversion of an existing building.
|
 |
When seeking to achieve these requirements, it is important to bear in mind that you will probably need to calculate the current db rating of your floor and so define the reduction in impact sound levels required. So beware of products which claim to "conform to Part E requirements". It all depends on the performance of the existing floor build up!.
|
Wedi NonStep products have been successfully applied in a wide range of domestic and light commercial applications ( such as apartments, hotels and offices) over many years and are well-established products in their field.

Wedi NonStep Plan

Plan is a 6mm thick 'mat' which consists of re-cycled rubber material blended with extruded polystyrene flakes and coated with a special flexible mineral sealing.

The mats are loose laid in a staggered brick bond pattern and the joints covered with adhesive tape to prevent sound diffusion. A layer of cement based flexible adhesive is then laid over the NonStep Plan into which is embedded 60cm wide Wedi TT60 reinforcement mesh, and the surface trowelled smooth. Tiling can begin once the adhesive has cured.
The process described above will achieve a minimum 14db impact sound reduction performance.

Wedi NonStep Plus
Wedi NonStep Plus can be used on completely level wooden or concrete floors which have been thoroughly cleaned before application.
NonStep Plus is 12mm thick and consists of a layer of Wedi NonStep Plan (as described above) permanently bonded to a 6mm thick Wedi Tilebacker Board, and produced in a manner which provides a ship-lap joint connection.
NonStep Plus delivers a unique combination of impact sound reduction with a completely waterproof substrate, and is especially appropriate in bathrooms and wet areas.
The boards are loose laid in a staggered brick bond pattern utilising the ship-lap joint connection. Then, 60cm wide Wedi TT60 joint reinforcement tape is laid embedded in a layer of cement based adhesive over the whole board area and trowelled smooth. Tiling can commence once the adhesive has cured.
The process described above will achieve a minimum 16db impact sound reduction performance.
